Chill N’ Vibe – SV ft Alyssa Jane & Kevon Scott (sax)

Chill N’ Vibe By SV is a masterpeice! WOW, I just had to jump right into it and say it off top. My Goodness.

First of all, I absolutely love the live sax that is played by Kevon Scott. Growing up in the Bay Area, artists like Too Short, Ant Banks, and Tha Dangerous Crew, incorporated live instruments into hip hop which was somewhat a new idea in the early 90s given everything was loops and samples from records. The live bass, sax, guitars, and pianos to me were brilliant it opened up the song and gave live to singers, and let the rapper have a sense of freedom while rapping to an ever-so-changeable instrumental. CHill N’ Vibe gives me all of that. It takes me back to a time when music was pure, fun, and enjoyable, a beautiful blend of retro hip-hop and amazing vocals provided by Mrs. Alyssa Jane. I find it so easy to get lost in this instrumental and just start rapping, I have to refocus several times while writing this just because I have started freestyling to the epic boom-bap drum patter and greatness this beat provides. I would absolutely love to rap on this beat. The lyrics on the song are fantastic, whoever wrote them knew that the way music makes people feel gives lyrics the power to influence and change perspectives of situations when listening. When Alyssa says “I just want to make music” I just feel that because the creation process is so addictive I couldn’t imagine going without it. The Saxophone is so brilliant in this piece, I love how the saxophonist doesn’t try to go crazy or be Kenny G, I should have said Bill Clinton for laughs haha. but he keeps it so sultry and gangsta. He knows this doesn’t have to be some over-the-top showcase to display his skill, but more of a laid-back groove that allows the listener to remain in tune with the boom-bap style this beat is screaming out.
