Poet Vin – 27 Club

Poet Vin sent me 27 club with a message that immediately drew me in. I have forever been interested in the deaths of artists who passed away at 27 and the coincidences as well as conspiracies that surround the topic. I pressed play and was instantly a little thrown off by the beat as its a very different from your typical hip-hop beat, it cuts in and out like race car switching lanes. I felt like the vocals were really low and not of the greatest quality. I almost wanted to forget this song but sat down and played it three or four times in a row to really try to understand the emotions and feelings Poet zin put into this one. I had to remember he is a Poet and not necessarily a rap artist and maybe this beat is more along the lines of spoken word. I never could get into the beat but the more I focused on the words and the message Poet was giving us I started to vibe to it and get in touch with how this song was making me feel. I drifted off into a world where someone who thought they wanted to be in the 27 club but has already passed their time, they look at it as being the cool thing to do, but they aren’t welcomed. This song really is a beautifully written piece with lines about addiction, mental health, and the pain of just life. This isn’t a pop song or a song that makes you want to dance, but more so a song that makes you think, a song that makes you dissect it and finds the true meaning for the listener. I hope when you first hear this song you don’t skip it like I almost did. Sit, Listen, and find what it means to you!
