Today I get to review this song called Six Hundred by Cypher the Avatar featuring Dyllan Elijah.

As soon as this track started I got hit with a super heavy east coast boom-bap style beat that has a nasty bass line. I instantly got taken back to a time when groups like mobb deep were running things and ruling the game with similar style beats. almost as soon as the play button got hit my head started nodding like a heroin addict.
The song starts out with super strong lyrics “I just spent six hundred on a vid you didn’t watch”. As a rapper myself I highly relate to the investment/return aspect of hip-hop. Often times there is no return as it seems it’s all based on the algorithms and how much money you can dump into social media marketing. Musicians today are victims of the stronghold of communication, hip hop used to be a street game but it has quickly evolved into a social image game. $600 dollar videos, $600 dollar post boost, and you’ll get 600 likes and 100,000 streams and make $100 bucks and somehow feel like you won lol.  The Lyrics in this song are on point, It’s almost a breath of fresh air, I get a flashback to real ass old school hip hop. A beautiful memory of when rappers spit with meaning and gave the listener a wonderful experience of rhythm and rhyme. The funniest part about this song is the writers are giving us their feelings, they are absolutely keeping it real by telling us how they are being let down by this music game and telling us “then you wonder why I do not drop an awful lot”
When I first played this I thought the first rapper Ripped the song wide open and the 2nd rapper didn’t fit well, but after my 4th or 5th spin, I fell in love with the 2nd rapper’s verse. the first rapper embodies hip-hop and the gritty new jersey style but the 2nd guy comes in and seems to be having fun with the verse, his voice and delivery are upbeat and fun a tad poppish “rip the eye up out an alien” he really isn’t on the topic of the song but it’s fun as hell and I really like this verse.
So I got curious about the video, I wanted to see the video Avatar spent $600 on but I was unable to find it. I did stumble upon an interview view and was shocked this guy is from Houston. I find it incredible that he has his own style and doesn’t run with the typical H Town Sound (Geto Boys, Paull Wall, type sounds) I would have almost bet money Avatar was from the east coast. Even crazier he wasn’t inspired by anyone from the east!  This song is instantly added to my playlist and Im going to go out of my way to try and rock a banger with this cat. ABSOLUTE FIRE!
