“I don’t want to be a starving artist”
This is such a powerful lyric. As a musician my self, well not much of a musician, I rap, hardly a musician I guess, but none the less still a starving artist putting everything I can into what I feel could be the next big song. The great thing about this song is that I think my friend WMK has given us something every music man, or women, could easily relate to. Everyone starts from the bottom, and everyone has that feeling of starvation when it comes to getting your dreams out of music. The first few lines speak of the great things a lot of us have in life, good job, nice car, beautiful homes, family and friends, but in the end what do we as ourselves really want? imagine working 12 hour shifts all day to come home and go back the next morning OR imagine doing what you absolutely love but not getting the financial rewards. “Id give it all away right now for a Amish horse and plow, I want a simple life” I think this song is telling us that just because some people don’t have as much as others, doesn’t make them less or better, they say the happiest people in the world are poor and happy. I really like these songs that gives us a story we can vision in our minds as the song plays on. I still really like the very first song I heard from WMK, but this is a super close 2nd… the line “so I can have the privilege to work my fingers to the bone” hits home.. I’m lucky to have a great job, but this song makes me question would I be happier as Penniless Bill?
hmm
