YB Huncho is a rapper is a recording artist from Jackson, Mississippi. The album starts off with Huaraches, I like the beat is has a nice southern bounce to it, and the delivery of the content is pretty nice as well. It seems to have a sample in it that I cant put my finger on, this is a good riding song, the hook is catchy and flows perfect with the verses. I do feel with sayings like “Out the mud” is over used in southern trap. The Next is Philly Cheese Ft Tutu, This song much like the first one has a distinct reverb on the vocals, particularly on the back ups which may be a tad too loud on this song. The Delivery is really similar to the first song, as I type this the first rapper starts flipping the deliver and really chopping it, this is actually pretty dope on the delivery aspect. I’m not a huge fan of the chorus on this one, I feel like some of it is forced. Tutu sounds like a younger rapper, the flow is pretty dope, the verse was short and it ended abruptly but It was pretty solid, great tone to the voice. We move on to the song Denim. This song has a fun little start to the beat, fast hi hat. The Rapper tries to bring a melodic rap to the song but I’m just not feeling it on this beat. The break down is pretty dope, when the rapper takes the melodic flow away it sounds a lot better to me. but this is probably my least fav song so far. Dazed starts out fast, and seems very similar to the other songs. This album flows really well, it almost flows so well together that it gets a tad repetitive. The back ups on this song are pretty cool very melodic and harmonizes nicely. The production and mixing on this record all seem well done, I can tell the rapper takes himself very serious and did a great job on putting out a solid project. The next song playing is Area 51 which I actually like. I like the delivery over the mellow beat and the awesome break down. the Fx’s on the vocals are very Are 51ish… good song… Around you for me has the best beat on the album hands down. the production on this is phenomenal. I was hoping a seasoned RnB singer was going to come in . I feel like this song could of been special. Instead we got another “get it out the mud”. I understand this style is the new wave in mainstream rap music. I feel like the auto tune is way to heavy on this song. Dollars and Quarters starts off with a fantastic beat that I absolutely love. This is another heavy reverb auto tune song. I feel like this is a RnB beat but the artist tries to flip it into a slow rap song, that for me just isn’t working. I feel like some of the rap is off beat and is being forced to fit the beat. This one is my least favorite song on the album so far. I skipped to Stick and Stones. Another fantastic beat, this beat is pure fire. I like this song a lot, I would consider this one being the lead single of the record. I do feel like the album has taken a vibe change from up tempo a slower approach.. I like the double ups in this one a lot, the mix is really good as well.. 1035 freestyle. I spoke to soon as it went right back into a up tempo rap. this isn’t a bad track, a cool song to vibe to, but I’m ready to get into this Players Anthem as I’m an 80s baby and that’s my vibe. This is a new school approach with the melodic rap that is popular right now, but the same player message, I don’t mind this song the beat is pretty nice and I like the delivery of the lyrics.
the last song, the bonus song has another amazing beat. I really like the start with the message of “do what you wanna do , be who you wanna be” reminds me of the old Devin the Dude song… this is another one that I could listen to regularly. giving me some mo3, or a Rod Wave vibe… now i’m torn if this is the best song or is Stick and stones..
The Production on this album is really good, it carries the album thru times when some of the songs may not be that strong. YB Huncho has a ear for wonderful production and a knack for catchy melodic songs. I feel like some of the deep reverbs may of been to much and sometimes trying to put a new sound on a older style beat didn’t work for him. Over all This album is pretty solid.
