Today I am reviewing IamOaks – City Swerve.
First off can’t wait to hear this song just based on the cd art that is uploaded with the song. What can I say I am a Lowrider fanatic haha, The song starts off with a super cool beat that what I think is a little flute-type melody, it’s laid back and just chill. When IamOaks came in I didn’t expect it to be a new style song, so the auto tunes melodic flow caught me off, guard. Normally I dislike autotune but this particular song is using it correctly. it’s not overdone where the vocals sound robotic, but used to tune the notes and make them stay on key, whoever was running the boards did a wonderful job of executing the effect. I really like the mixing on the whole song, the echos on the backups have a really nice vibe and aren’t so loud that it affects the main vocal. I feel like the song is spot on with what’s popular, it lacks uniqueness and doesn’t really tell me who IamOaks is due to the song having so many similarities to popular music right now.
The hook is catchy, I like the “karats in my grill” and then the delivery charge in the middle really sets it off for me. The flute in the verse gets a little loud during the verse and kind of takes the focus off the lyrics. I really feel like this song is appealing to the younger crowd, the 18-25 demographic will really dig this song. The song for me is basically about bragging and boasting about doing everything big. Rolling in cars with big wheels, gold in his teeth, sipping the best, leather seats, all the best of the best, These types of songs are staples in hip hop music due to the dreams hip hop fans long for, to drive flashy cars and have the best jewelry, this song will draw in listeners based off its catchiness and fun it brings to the listener.
