M-Positive – “I Choose Happy”

Today I am reviewing “I Choose Happy” by Marcus “M-Positive” Parker.
I want to start off and say after my first listen I added this song directly to my liked songs and my personal playlist. This is a beautiful, conscious, educational written that Hip Hop has been missing commercially. People always say HIP HOP still exist you just have to find it, and today I have found it. Imagine a song that is not degrading women, not corrupting the minds of the youth, not making selling dope cool, not putting the life’s of the youth at risk via a dream that is only achieved by gang banging, Imagine that, well you no longer have to , because it is right here.
The song starts off by jumping right off into the chorus. When I was first sent the song the description briefly stated that the artist loved to make positive material that wasn’t all churchy. Although the Chorus mentions GOD I feel like M-Positive does in fact give you a positive mindset that keeps you self grounded without the feeling you have to have religion to succeed. I love the “I choose happy” even when Life gets hard, it’s a choice, it might hurt, but it’s ok to be happy.
The First verse is about relationship, the hardships of making it work, and just the hardships of life, Jobs, family, no one is excluded, and those are his words. he is basically telling us things are hard, things are always going to be tough, and they will always be that way, but it doesn’t always have to bring you down , you are who you are even during the darkest times. This song is really a great song, I can see this being a song that gets someone through had times…
The Second verse is probably my favorite, mainly because not only is it telling you to choose happy, its promoting making money, and making sure bills are a priority. A quote I always grew up with is ” You’re not broke, if your bills are paid”. Stay in school, don’t be scared to do work , start a business. M-Positive tells us, it may not jump off quickly but anything this a positive when you work at it. This man is brilliant with his pen , what a great verse..
Third verse he tells us straight up that even he isn’t the perfect human, he has made mistakes, he has done wrong and done right, but even thru all the bad, you can always choose happy and change. I feel like this verse is a letter to him self to remember to always choose happy and to remember it is easy to fall off track and change the person you are…
Overall I am glad this was sent to me I have no negatives at all about this song, I don’t even feel like there is anything to do better as M-Positive is a wizard on this song. The beat is beautiful, the words are upfront and clear, the message is uplifting and positive and the vibe is great.. Another thing I noticed is I believe he said he was born in the Mid 70’s but the song doesn’t have that grand master flash style delivery that would scream “Old Head”
