Shar – When The World Is On Your Shoulder

As soon as I hit play and realized I wasn’t reviewing a rap song, I was thrilled. It’s very rare that I get a song that appears to have live instruments and structure outside of hip-hop.
The song starts out with an awesome guitar that sounds like it should be in the middle of the song. Shar just comes straight out of the gate and says watch me “shred this bad boy”. When the Lyrics come in, I get a real cool Tom Petty feel, like just a laid-back voice, and a cool vibe that you could drop the top in an old classic and cruise down the boulevard with your lady by your side and watch the streetlights pass while feeling a cool breeze in your hair.

What I really like about the song is the positivity and uplifting lyrics.  It’s always a good feeling to hear a song that reinforces a positive vibe, which in turn, I feel like gives off a positive energy, that can essentially change a day or someone’s mindset. The words about Love, and life are great to hear. with mental health being an issue in today’s society more songs that bring a light to the issue is great. Letting people know that it’s ok to start over is a necessity and I’m glad you did this.

I feel like the song is catchy, and like stated above has a great message, but I also feel like the song could benefit from some female backup vocals like Bob Seger does on many of his hit songs. I’m not sure what genre this falls into, I’m considering it a pop rock or a folk rock, but possibly a classic rock sound with the great electric solos that chime in every now and then.

After several plays I will conclude that its almost stuck in my head, easy to learn, and a very catchy tune.
