Soul Recruiter – The Cycle

Today I’m reviewing The Cycle by Soul Recruiter.
the song starts out with one of the realest samples I heard in a long time. The sample explains how people shouldn’t be killing each other, especially when they come from the same back grounds.. Bloods, Crips and so on , Brothers, cousins, killing each other. Reliving the same cycle that has plagued communities for years..
The first verse comes in hot and heavy. the instrumental is so heavy and melodic , Soul Recruiter comes in with a hardcore fast flow that is infectious to the ears, He jumps off telling a story about a guy who is trying to kill another , but it back fires which in turn is the story of the song , The Cycle.. the old saying Take one of mine I take one of yours .
The delivery of this song is very good.. what I like is how the verse flawlessly goes into the hook without a noticeable stop.
The 2nd verse is probably my favorite. this is another story about retaliation in our neighborhoods that are part of the viscous cycle. Shooting, then retaliating against family or friends, trying to take someone you love just to hurt you more than you hurt them. After each verse a new sample comes in with inspirational speeches about not hurting each other and not killing our self.
I really wish hip hop had more messages like this, more conscious messages that teach and opens the eyes of the listener while educating them on the harsh realities that live in our streets. With the passing of several Rappers recently I feel this king of song is more important than ever. We need to learn to stop the cycle and how to progress the climb. Generational wealth and long healthy life. Soul Recruiter is a rare breed in hip hop right now and this song gives us a valuable lesson that no one seems to be interested in …
Brilliant song…
