William Matthew Kelly – Madison

I don’t know how to express in words how excited I am to finally get a song to review that isn’t a rap song. This song gives me a super Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffet vibe. I know two completely different genres but for some reason that’s who I think of when I hear this. When the song first started I just sat and listened to the lyrics and started to get drawn in. I wasn’t sure if this song was about his wife, or a best friend or what. The more I got into the song I determined that this is about his daughter, who fell victim to drugs and the night light. This song really hits home as my niece overdosed a year again, she was only 16. I absolutely love how this song doesn’t demonize the people or the idea around the people but gives a hopeful outlook that change can happen, and it can happen any time and you can always be as great as you once were. This song for me shows compassion to a topic that most people look down upon with words like Junkie, or addict, and never with Friend, sister, daughter, or mother.
This song is fantastically written. I hope I got it right about it being about someone’s daughter. The more I think the more I wonder if his son’s name is Madison and the girls of the night stole his love with drugs.
“All it takes is one stab to begin”
good grief this song gets deeper and deeper the more I listen to it… absolutely great work…
