William Matthew Kelly – Stand up and Be Proud

wow… I cant even write a intro to this song because the first few lines have already struck a story in my head. Another great visual WMK is paining with his words. This song is talking about a women he met that gave him a life worth standing up and being proud. I actually got a little backstory on this song and the words are talking about how WMK was kicked out at 14 and he met his friends aunt who took him in and gave him shelter.. I really love how some of the figures in these songs keep popping up, such as “the little red haired boy”. As a hip hop guy , creator, rapper whatever, I love a good story song, a great story teller to me makes a great song. WMK is one of the better story tellers I’ve heard in a good while.. I’ve said it before but it has such a great Billy Joel vibe. Not the up-tempo vibes, but the way the song tells the story.. “Rita your the reason the life I have now is because of you” Rita sounds like an extradentary women. Someone who was willing to take a child in and show them love and give them a reason to stand up and be proud is a wonderful gesture that seems to be a dying fad in a world of much needed love..
I feel like WMK is brave. Song writing about specific people is brave. even if its in good conscious it’s still scary. He gave a date so I’m not sure if the subject was able to hear the song, but if she didn’t I know she would of loved it.. Beautiful imagery and poetry .
